It might seem to anyone outside of Southern Valley that the Georgia Fall season is just like the Spring. It’s a fair assumption that in the Fall, we’re bustling with the same Springtime energy and excitement in preparation for another busy season. After all, Fall means we’re back at home, picking, packing, and shipping every single day but The Lord’s Day.
But when the Fall finally hits and along with it comes the first cool breeze of the changing season, the pace around here seems to switch. That very first morning we step outside and the cool breeze hits, we slow down and breathe it in. Morning routines normally characterized by rush-rush-rush and coffee-to-go are transformed into stopping to take a few deep breaths of crisp morning air. Sure, we still feel the excitement about the upcoming season and being able to provide fresh fruits and vegetables back at our home base, but this time of year we enjoy our coffee on the back porch and put our boots on a little bit slower.
And that first cool breeze couldn’t have come at a more welcomed time. It’s been a very busy year, and we are so thankful for it – but sometimes you just need to sit back and breathe. Our winter season in Yucatan and Florida was a busy one, then we had a record-breaking Georgia Spring amidst a pandemic, followed by a particularly sweltering summer. It has been both a very challenging and rewarding year for the Valley. I think I can speak for everyone when I say that we have grown both personally and collectively, and we are coming out of this year stronger than before.
And now that we’re back in Georgia, it’s our time to take a breath. Being back home for Fall season means the gnats are gone, and we can enjoy evenings outside in peace. It means we can ride through fields with the windows down instead of having to blast the A/C. It means we’ve escaped the grueling heat that’s been bearing down on us for the past 6 months. And most importantly, it means we can finally feel the breeze.
