It is the goal of Southern Valley to give our customers the highest quality, safest foods possible. Our food safety program exceeds the requirements of both the government and industry regulations. We are Global Food Safety Initiative compliant and have our annual Primus Global Food Safety audits in the packing sheds and fields at all three farm locations. We are also subject to unannounced second party audits throughout the year.
The Primus audit covers Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). FSMS includes the paperwork and management aspect of the program. GAP relates to the safety, sanitation, and hygiene practices covered in the field while GMP deals with the safety, sanitation, and hygiene within the packinghouse. Workers are trained upon hiring and receive continuous training each season. In addition, Southern Valley is a leader in the Produce Traceability Initiative (PTI). This initiative created a case labeling system to aid in the traceability of product in the case of a recall.
